Piezocone Testing

CPTu testing, also known as Cone Penetration Testing with pore pressure measurements, is a geotechnical investigation method used to determine the soil's engineering properties and geotechnical characteristics. It involves pushing a cone-shaped penetrometer into the ground and measuring various parameters during penetration.

By analyzing the data obtained from CPTu testing, geotechnical engineers can assess various soil properties and geotechnical parameters, such as the soil type, stratification, groundwater conditions, soil strength, and deformation characteristics. This information is crucial for designing foundations, assessing slope stability, analyzing liquefaction potential, and evaluating other geotechnical aspects related to construction projects.

CPTu testing offers several advantages, including rapid data acquisition, high-quality data, cost-effectiveness, and minimal disturbance to the soil.

Seismic Cone Testing

Seismic cone testing, also known as SCPT or seismic cone penetration testing, is a geotechnical investigation method used to assess the subsurface conditions and soil properties. It involves pushing a cone-shaped penetrometer equipped with seismic sensors into the ground, measuring the response of the soil to seismic waves generated by the equipment. By analyzing the recorded signals, geotechnical engineers can evaluate parameters such as shear wave velocity, stiffness, and soil layering, providing valuable information for seismic site characterization, earthquake engineering, and assessing soil liquefaction potential. Seismic cone testing offers a reliable and efficient means of understanding the dynamic behavior of the ground, aiding in the design of structures and mitigating seismic hazards.

Vibrating Wire Piezometers

Vibrating wire piezometers are instruments used in geotechnical and geoenvironmental monitoring to measure pore water pressure in soil or groundwater. They consist of a vibrating wire element sealed within a stainless steel housing. When the pore water pressure changes, it causes a corresponding change in tension on the vibrating wire. This alteration in tension affects the wire's resonant frequency, which can be measured using appropriate readout equipment. By monitoring the frequency variations, engineers can determine the pore water pressure changes accurately. Vibrating wire piezometers are highly reliable, provide long-term stability, and are widely used in applications such as slope stability monitoring, foundation engineering, and groundwater studies. They offer precise and continuous measurements, enabling effective management and assessment of water pressures within geotechnical structures.

Osimo offers installation services for vibrating wire piezometers, whether on surface for new tailings facilities, below surface with the push-in piezometers in soft soils and tailings, or in borehole installations. Vented vibrating wire piezometers can also be used to measure water levels in stand pipes, dams, reservoirs or other applications.

Mostap Sampling

The MOSTAP sampler is an open sampler which allows the extraction of high quality, near undisturbed samples.

The sampler is pushed to the desired testing depth where a sample of 35mm diameter and up to 1m long can be extracted.

Mostap sampling allows for good samples used for soil classification and identification. It also enables laboratory soil moisture content analysis.
Osimo's Mostap sampler fits on our CPTu rig, meaning that samples can be extracted below surface to depths beyond 20m (site conditions dependent).
